I Love El Carriel, both locations; Mauldin and the new one at White House Greenville. They always have the best colombian food in this area and an amazing service. I recommend it 100%.
Que más podría contar or avisar de la comida y el ambiente de esta panadería/restaurante. Divino? Me encanta? Perfecto? I have always enjoyed visiting Greenville and it's fantastic Colombian restaurants. El Carriel has over and over exceeded my expectations for well over 5 years now. The food is as authentic as it gets. The portions are HUGE. The servers are tan amable. The panadería has yet to disappoint me with their selection. Must try are buñuelos, as well as pan de bono. The arroz con pollo is great. The almuerzo Colombiano is authentic and full of sabor autentico. The weekend pollo asado is like walking into a kokorico in the 1980's Bogota. The selection of jugos is next level. The coolers and products are always on point in their diversity and relevance. Absolutely worth a visit and some light grocery shopping, even if it's for a little mekateo and some authentic ingredients shopping..
Good Colombian food and bakery! We have been going there since November, and like it a lot!
I'll start by saying, come hungry! Their portions, even for lunch, are ample, large, filling and delicious. Of course, I had to try the "National Dish" of Colombia, the Bandeja Paisa, which was quite good. Who knew that they had a "mini" version that you could order? Not me! It was a generous portion of rice topped with a poached egg, a quarter slice of avocado, frijoles Colombianos (Colombian style beans, three sections of fried plantain, a cornmeal arepa, a thinly sliced steak, a chorizo sausage and a giant chicharron (not sure if it was pork or another type, but a generous portion of fat and meat). So, that deliciousness left me ready for a nap and a bit bloated - my fault for trying to eat the entire meal before I gave up on that and still got the "to-go" box. I started this meal trying an empanada, because you have to and this is a Colombian bakery, in addition to being a restaurant. But, I swear that empanada seemed more like a Goya processed food empanada than a home-made one. The filling was well processed and no other texture than mushy, but it was good. A coworker raved about the liver and onions, another healthy portion. We will be back.
Very true to traditional Colombia. Great portions and wonderful flavors! Love the breakfast dishes, arepas and bakery items. #RepeatCustomer
We arrived Greenville a couple days ago and wanted to find a Colombian bakery and we were so surprised when we found this place only 12 mins away from my sister's house. We placed an order over the phone and drive there ASAP as we COULDN'T wait to eat delicious colombia bread. To our surprise not only does this place sell a variety of Colombian baked goods but Colombian food and Colombian products to take home such as arepa harina, snacks, chocolate, coffee, etc. order was ready and evything we ordered tasted fresh buñuelos, pandebonos, empanadas de cambray which are pandebonos stuffed with guava, and cheese bread. My only complaint though and I have sadly noticed this in SC so far is the crazy use of styrofoam which we all know is a planet killer. Porfavor to the owner of this establishment use better choices, help the planet. PORFAVOR CAMBIEN EL USO DE CONTENEDORES DE ICOPOR ES MUY MALO PARA EL PLANETA.
If you love authentic Colombian food or just want to try something different, you need to check this place out. It's small and sort of hidden in a shopping strip in Mauldin. It can get busy during lunch and the kitchen is small so don't go if you're in a hurry, this is not fast food. I love the empanadas and the bandeja paisa is a good choice to try several different things. Everything is seasoned perfectly. It's a large plate that's enough to feed two. They have a lot of dishes to choose from including fish, steaks, soups and salads. They also have a counter with a large selection of breads and pastries. There is also a breakfast menu.
I've heard they have the best authentic Colombian empanadas in Greenville. My father (native to Pereira) took my family and I there for dinner tonight. We ordered for takeout and waited about 20 minutes for our large order to be ready. We ordered the bandeja paisa, picada individual, cerdo empanizado, beef enchiladas, pandebono, buñelos, y deditos de queso. We all enjoyed our food, and all agreed that the empanadas are outstandingly delicioso! I'll be going back just for those. My husband raved about the hot sauce (he's a Texan) so be sure to grab some of that too when you stop by. Service is friendly, they stay quite busy, wear face masks, and provide hand sanitizer to customers. Indoor seating is open and available as well. Definitely a small, hometown business that is fantastic. Who better to come out and support in these times?
When it comes to a restaurant review & you remove all the fluff and personal opinions/biases It boils down to two things - 1. Will I come back & 2. Would I recommend a restaurant to friends and family. The answer to both of these is a resounding YES on both points. Great authentic food with friendly service. A must try & a must repeat. Casual! Comfort! AUTHENTIC!!!! Tasty!!!!!!!!!!
